Word as Image by Ji Lee

Says Lee about this project he started 20 years ago in a design class: “When we were children, letters were like fun toys. We played with them through our building blocks. We colored them in books. We danced and sang along with TV puppets while learning C was for ‘cookie.’ Soon, letters turned into words. Words turned into sentences. Sentences turned into thoughts. And along the way, we stopped playing with them and stopped marveling at A through Z. Anyone can create a word as image. It doesn’t require any design or drawing skills. All you need is a little creative thinking and to see words and letters in a different way. The dictionary is filled with thousands of fun visual puzzles just waiting to be solved”.

The Color of Sunsets by Eric Cahan

Entitled “Sky Series”, these arent paint sample gradients but actual photos taken of various sunsets and sunrises around the country. In describing his process, Eric says: “A lot of people ask me if this is all done in Photoshop. Actually, very little Photoshop is used. I will only tone photos to match the paper type and, in some cases, add a bit of color curves. The actual process is done with colored resin filters that I’ve made being placed in front of the lens. One must remember, when a colored filter is used against a blue sky, it always alters the color of the sky. You have to know the colors you are going for and then choose a filter from there. For example, if you use a yellow filter and the sky is very blue, it will turn the horizon green. This works best during sunrise and sunset. It’s a bit like capturing a shadow”.  Click on the pictures to see where and when they were taken. I honestly didnt know some of these colors existed in nature. Crayola’s 64 Box of crayons lied to me.

Zac Gorman had a vision: one of Sonic running like he’s a friggin moron. Nedroid then incited the masses to contribute their own. And thusly, an Internet Meme is birthed all sprawling and arms flailing about, unable to control its legs, into the world.
